What it costs to sell a record on Discogs, eBay and GrailBin
By GrailBin · Updated October 2026
On a $30 record with $4.50 shipping, a seller pays about $4.80 in fees on Discogs, about $5.09 on eBay, and $1.44 on GrailBin. GrailBin also charges buyers a $2.50 Guarantee fee on that sale, so fees on the whole sale come to $3.94. Most of the gap is the rate: GrailBin's percentage is lower, and it isn't charged on shipping, while Discogs and eBay take a percentage of the item price plus shipping.
What each marketplace charges sellers
- Discogs: a 9% selling fee on the item price plus shipping (minimum $0.10, maximum $150), plus the payment processor's fee. Discogs payments go through PayPal, which lists 3.49% + $0.49 for a PayPal checkout in the US.
- eBay: for vinyl records, a final value fee of 13.6% of the total sale (item, shipping and sales tax) up to $7,500, plus $0.40 per order ($0.30 on orders of $10 or less). Payment processing is included.
- GrailBin: 3.3% + $0.45 on the item price, taken from your payout. Payment processing is included. No listing fee, and nothing on shipping.
Fees at four prices
Each row assumes $4.50 shipping, no sales tax, and a PayPal checkout on Discogs.
| Record price | GrailBin, seller fee | GrailBin, including the buyer's fee | Discogs | eBay |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10 | $0.78 | $2.08 | $2.30 | $2.37 |
| $30 | $1.44 | $3.94 | $4.80 | $5.09 |
| $75 | $2.93 | $8.13 | $10.42 | $11.21 |
| $150 | $5.40 | $13.60 | $19.79 | $21.41 |
eBay also charges its percentage on sales tax, so in a state with 7% tax the $30 sale costs about $5.40.
What buyers pay on GrailBin
GrailBin buyers pay a Guarantee fee: 6% of the item price (3% on any part above $100) plus $0.70 per order. It's included in the price buyers see, and it pays for the guarantee: a full refund, shipping included, if a record arrives damaged, never arrives, or isn't as described. On the $30 record that's $2.50, so the fees on the whole sale come to $3.94 on GrailBin, against $4.80 on Discogs and $5.09 on eBay.
When the math changes
- Very cheap records. Every site has a fixed charge per sale, and it weighs more on a $3 record than a $30 one. Counting GrailBin's buyer fee, records under about $6 can cost less to sell elsewhere, so run the numbers at your own prices.
- Free shipping. If you build shipping into your price, a percentage fee on the total stops being a fee on shipping and becomes a fee on the item.
- Fees change. Check each site's fee page before you decide. The figures here were checked in October 2026. GrailBin hasn't launched yet, and its fees may change before launch.
What fees don't show
Fees are only part of what a sale costs you. Compare the time it takes to list, who pays for and prints the shipping label, how buyer claims are handled, and when you get paid. On GrailBin you're paid once the record is delivered and the buyer's inspection window (3 business days) closes with no claim.
